Unexpected benefits of a transatlantic production co

A couple of unexpected benefits of dealing with a small but transatlantic production co

Glencoe or Glen Coe and Glen Etive valley, panoramic view landscape in Lochaber, Scottish Higlands, Scotland, Great Britain, UK. In Glen Etive Skyfall with Daniel Craig as James Bond was filmed

You may have noticed a slight James Bond theme going on here which may seem at odds with the headline, but bear us out.

This Video Works is two producers and scriptwriters working together, Nancy, New York based and myself, who was previously New York based, now Hereford and London based, though we both work together in each location.

There are lots of benefits of being in both locations but for the purpose of this post I want to mention two which may not normally come to mind but illustrate some key benefits.

Both of us follow and are probably a bit obsessed by both US and UK media. I code and film for a fantastic menswear firm in Bath, Gabucci and have just started to post on their Instagram account to draw more interest to the business. Talking about Casentino cloth, a particular and rather famous Tuscan fabric they specify that is at risk of losing it’s factory and regional production, gained a good number of likes and interest. The original article about Casentino cloth and its near perilous situation came from the New York Times.

Today another New York blog, Spoon and Tamago, which writes about Japanese culture and art, produced a story about Hashima island in Japan, also known as Battleship island.

It’s easy to see where the name comes from too, but to film buffs, the location is also as reminiscent of a certain Bond movie as is the above picture of the Glen Etive valley, in the Scottish Highlands.

Using the below pic of the iconic Aston Martin DB5, albeit shot making a later movie, we wrote a teaser post linking Gabucci style to that of the dress of Daniel Craig and Javier Bardem while filming on the island. The film of course was Skyfall.

Like the Casentino Cloth article, we hope this article will attract the attention of visitors and keep them coming back to Instagram, to the blog and to the store. Happily the likes started within minutes of the post going live.

We’re also writing about local arts and music events and of course those links are coming from British national and local sources but being able to combine the two gives our clients an edge.

The second benefit should have a very positive impact on two new clients. Both in London but with very different audiences to reach, except that in each case reaching a US market is likely to be their most lucrative, but neither are in a position to operate there.

We have an intimate knowledge of both markets and great contacts for them and are able to localise them in New York specifically for SEO.

Both projects include a site build, SEO and video and combining the three with good hosting, will enable us build markets for each business here and in the US.

Our own office is coming too but that is likely to be in Providence, Rhode Island, giving good access to NY and Boston for filming. While Providence is slightly bigger than Hereford, well rather more than slightly, Hereford still gives us great access to London, Bristol, Birmingham and Manchester.

All I need now is a camera equipped, ULEZ compliant, Aston DB5, like the one above to get around in … till then my old Merc will have to do.
